Practice for the Ohio commercial driver’s license knowledge tests. The questions follow the federal CDL manual that every state builds its tests on, and every answer is explained.
Ohio CDL basics
- The commercial learner permit is valid for 12 months, and you take the written tests at any driver exam station.
- The skills test has three parts: pre-trip inspection (30-minute limit), basic maneuverability (40-minute limit) and the road test. The whole test must finish within three hours.
- If you fail a part, there is a two-day wait before you retest.

- General knowledge
Required for every CDL. Inspection, vehicle control, hazards, cargo and the rules.
- Air brakes
Compressor, tanks, warnings and the brake checks. Needed to drive any air-braked vehicle.
- Combination vehicles
Coupling, uncoupling, rollovers and trailer skids. Needed for Class A.
