  • Miller Air Park: Route 530 and Mule Rd, Berkeley Township, NJ 08757
  • Eatontown: 109 Route 36 West, Eatontown, NJ 07724

What the MVC has in Lakewood

Lakewood has two MVC addresses on Route 70, and neither gives road tests. The vehicle center is at 1195 Rte 70, Leisure Center, Store 9, and the inspection station is at 1145 Rte 70, Lakewood, NJ 08701.

A vehicle center handles registrations and titles, not licenses. Freehold and Manahawkin are the nearby licensing centers.

What to bring to the road test

  • Your valid examination permit and the 6 Points of ID used for it
  • An accompanying New Jersey licensed driver who is 21 or older and has held a New Jersey license for 3 or more years
  • A registered car with a current inspection sticker, insurance card and plate decals (red, reflective decals if you are under 21)

The examiner must be able to reach the emergency brake from the passenger seat. The MVC turns away cars with an improper, expired or missing inspection sticker, tinted windows or missing decals, and self-parking cars. The test takes about 10 to 15 minutes and checks reversing, stopping at signs, corners and intersections, smooth stopping, steering, turning around, parallel parking and yielding.

Before the test, the MVC requires supervised practice: 6 months for GDL drivers under 21, 3 months for GDL drivers 21 and over, and 20 days for non-GDL drivers. If you do not pass, you must wait at least 14 days to test again.
