How to Pass Your Driving Test at the Bakers Basin DMV

October 11, 2026 · 5 min read

The Bakers Basin road test center at 3200 Brunswick Pike (Route 1) in Lawrenceville is where many Mercer County drivers take the New Jersey road test. The test itself is short, about 10 to 15 minutes, but a missing document or a vehicle problem can end it before it starts. This guide covers what New Jersey's Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) says you need, what the examiner checks, and three driving schools that serve this test center.

What do you need to pass your road test at Bakers Basin?

Passing starts with showing up ready. The MVC says you must have all of these:

Book your slot first. The MVC says a road test appointment is required. You can schedule online through the MVC portal or at a driver testing center.

Are you eligible to take the road test?

You must pass the knowledge and vision tests first. Then you need supervised driving practice: 6 months if you are under 21 and in the Graduated Driver License (GDL) program, 3 months if you are over 21 and in GDL, or 20 days if you are not in GDL.

What does the examiner look for?

A Safety Specialist, which is the MVC's name for the examiner, rides with you. The MVC lists these skills:

The MVC says the test is given in an off-road testing area or on a public road course. It does not describe the layout of the course at any one site, so ask your instructor to practice the skills above rather than a memorized route.

What can get your vehicle turned away?

The examiner has to be able to reach the foot or parking brake from the passenger seat. Backup cameras and parking sensors may be used. The MVC lists these as reasons a vehicle will not be accepted:

A rental car can be used only when the test taker is a listed additional driver of contract age. Check this before you book a rental.

What happens if you pass or fail?

If you pass, the examiner endorses your permit and you get your license at an MVC agency. If you fail, you must wait at least 14 days before you test again.

Practice the Bakers Basin route with DMVRoadTest.net

DMVRoadTest.net sells a one-time premium guide for the Bakers Basin test center for $9.99. The site says each guide has a route explanation, expert tips and what it calls road test secrets. It describes test route overviews with maps and start and end points, step-by-step turns, speed-limit areas, complex intersections, maneuver instructions such as parallel parking and three-point turns, and the spots where candidates commonly make mistakes.

Three driving schools near the Bakers Basin road test

We did not test or rank these schools, and there is no pass-rate data to rank them by. We picked three that say on their own websites that they prepare students for this test. Prices and services change, so call before you book. US Driving School is owned by the same people who run DMVZone, so we list it first.

1. US Driving School (our school)

2. Amarnath Driving School

3. Vista Driving School

Ask each school three things: whether its car meets the MVC vehicle rules above, what the total price is, and whether it can book a lesson close to your test date.
