If you are looking for the Delaware DMV written test en creole, start with the one thing the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles clearly offers: an official Delaware Driver Manual in Haitian Creole (Kreyòl), dated July 2025, free on dmv.de.gov. Whether the knowledge test itself can be taken in Haitian Creole is not something the DMV publishes on its website, so call your DMV location before your visit to ask.

Very few guides cover this, so here is what we could confirm on the DMV's own pages, what we could not, and how to prepare either way.

Delaware DMV written test en creole: what is confirmed

QuestionWhat the Delaware DMV says
Is there a driver manual in Haitian Creole?Yes. The DMV posts a Haitian Creole manual, dated July 2025, with its other manuals
Other translated manualsSpanish, Chinese and Korean
Is the knowledge test offered in Haitian Creole? Not stated on the DMV pages we checked. Ask your DMV location
Audio testYes. Audio tests with headphones are available on request
TranslatorsOn the Driving Privilege Card page, the DMV says translators may assist during application and testing

The Creole manual itself repeats the audio option in Kreyòl: tès odyo (ak kas ekoutè) disponib sou demann, which means audio tests with headphones are available on request.

Ask before you go

Because the DMV does not publish its test languages, a short call saves a wasted trip. Ask three things: whether the knowledge test is offered in Haitian Creole at that location, whether you can take the audio version, and whether you may bring a translator. The DMV lists these numbers:

  • Wilmington: (302) 434-3200
  • Delaware City: (302) 326-5000
  • Dover: (302) 744-2500
  • Georgetown: (302) 853-1000
  • Email: DMVCustomerService@delaware.gov

If you are applying for a Driving Privilege Card, the DMV's page for that card says translators are permitted to assist during the application and testing process. Documents in another language must be translated into English by a professional translator and brought with the original.

What is on the test

All of the answers are in the Delaware Driver Manual, and the Creole manual covers the same material. The manual says you cannot pass the knowledge exam unless you know the information in it.

The DMV gives two different counts on its own pages. Its sample test page says the Class D knowledge test has 32 questions, with 26 needed to pass. Its general FAQ says 30 questions, with at least 24 correct. Either way you need about 80%, so aim higher on practice tests.

  • Road signs: shapes, colors and meanings.
  • Right of way, turns and intersections.
  • Speed, following distance and lane changes.
  • Parking, freeways and driving in bad weather.
  • Alcohol and drug laws, and rules for new drivers.
Good to know

Learn signs by shape and color first. A stop sign is an octagon in any language, so sign questions are points you can earn even while your English is still growing.

Delaware DMV written test practice

The DMV posts a free Sample Driving Exam on dmv.de.gov with 10 questions and an answer key. It is in English.

DMVZone's free Delaware practice tests are also in English. Our questions are original practice questions based on the official Delaware Driver Manual, not real DMV test questions. A method that works for many of our students who study in a second language:

  1. Read one chapter of the Kreyòl manual.
  2. Read the same chapter in the English manual and write down the key words in both languages.
  3. Take a practice test in English on that chapter.
  4. Go back to the Kreyòl manual for every question you miss.

After you pass

The manual says your permit is issued after you pass the eye screening and knowledge exams, that you must pass all exams within twelve months, and that the road exam cannot come until at least 30 days after you pass the knowledge exam.
